My DevOps Learning Journey

From sysadmin to Infrastructure as Code - sharing every step of the way

Welcome to My Blog

I'm a security engineer who's spent almost 25 years in IT, bouncing around roles like Helpdesk Support, Exchange Admin, Datacenter Admin, Business Intelligence, and IT Ops Sysadmin. Along the way, I've developed a healthy respect - and love - for automation. In fact, I once automated myself out of a job (which turned out to be the best thing that could have happened!).

Working with our DevOps team recently, they introduced me to the concepts of Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines. Sure, I'd heard those terms countless times over the years, but I finally decided to stop nodding along and actually understand what they meant. This blog chronicles that journey.

If you're curious about IaC but feeling intimidated, or if you're already on your own DevOps adventure, I hope my experiences help you along the way. After 25 years in this industry, I'm still learning new things every day - and that's exactly what keeps it interesting!
